Yeremia 2:26-27

2:26 Just as a thief has to suffer dishonor when he is caught,

so the people of Israel ¹  will suffer dishonor for what they have done. ² 

So will their kings and officials,

their priests and their prophets.

2:27 They say to a wooden idol, ³  ‘You are my father.’

They say to a stone image, ‘You gave birth to me.’ ⁴ 

Yes, they have turned away from me instead of turning to me. ⁵ 

Yet when they are in trouble, they say, ‘Come and save us!’

Mazmur 97:7

97:7 All who worship idols are ashamed,

those who boast about worthless idols.

All the gods bow down before him. ⁶ 

Yesaya 45:16-17

45:16 They will all be ashamed and embarrassed;

those who fashion idols will all be humiliated. ⁷ 

45:17 Israel will be delivered once and for all by the Lord; ⁸ 

you will never again be ashamed or humiliated. ⁹ 

Yesaya 65:11-14

65:11 But as for you who abandon the Lord

and forget about worshiping at ¹⁰  my holy mountain,

who prepare a feast for the god called ‘Fortune,’ ¹¹ 

and fill up wine jugs for the god called ‘Destiny’ ¹²  –

65:12 I predestine you to die by the sword, ¹³ 

all of you will kneel down at the slaughtering block, ¹⁴ 

because I called to you, and you did not respond,

I spoke and you did not listen.

You did evil before me; ¹⁵ 

you chose to do what displeases me.”

65:13 So this is what the sovereign Lord says:

“Look, my servants will eat, but you will be hungry!

Look, my servants will drink, but you will be thirsty!

Look, my servants will rejoice, but you will be humiliated!

65:14 Look, my servants will shout for joy as happiness fills their hearts! ¹⁶ 

But you will cry out as sorrow fills your hearts; ¹⁷ 

you will wail because your spirits will be crushed. ¹⁸ 

Yesaya 66:5

66:5 Hear the word of the Lord,

you who respect what he has to say! ¹⁹ 

Your countrymen, ²⁰  who hate you

and exclude you, supposedly for the sake of my name,

say, “May the Lord be glorified,

then we will witness your joy.” ²¹ 

But they will be put to shame.

Yehezkiel 16:63

16:63 Then you will remember, be ashamed, and remain silent ²²  when I make atonement for all you have done, ²³  declares the sovereign Lord.’”

Yehezkiel 36:32

36:32 Understand that ²⁴  it is not for your sake I am about to act, declares the sovereign Lord. Be ashamed and embarrassed by your behavior, O house of Israel.

Daniel 12:2

12:2 Many of those who sleep

in the dusty ground will awake –

some to everlasting life,

The sinners among God’s people worship the god Meni, apparently in an effort to ensure a bright destiny for themselves. But the Lord is the one who really determines their destiny and he has decreed their demise.
